Thought I might post here, might get some non-Ferrari content backlash on FChat.  :p

I fly out on Friday morning to New York for 5 days, then down to Miami (SPRING BREAK!!! ;) ) where me and my best mate are renting a 2008 C6 Corvette (6.2L LS3 V8, paddle shift, 430hp I think). Then over the next 5 weeks we are driving across the country (Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma on Route 66, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada) and will finish up with 10 days or so in California.

Hoping for some nice roads along the way, we have read up a fair bit on it and doing some of the more scenic coastal routes.

Attending the New York Autoshow which I think might be a little better than the Perth Motorshow with its 5yo 360 Spider on display, and also the Crystal Cove/Cars & Coffee exotic meet that is held every Sat. in LA.

Hope to post up photos along the way.

I'm sure there are many seasoned travellers here, anyone else done something similar and got any tips/thoughts?

That's awesome!

My (now ex) gf wanted me to go on an OS trip with her this year, but she wants to go over there and work in bars and basically do the backpack thing.  I told her it's not my style, if I go over there it's going to be for a roadtrip across the US in a sportscar... exactly what you are doing!!

As for the 'Vette... paddle-pop?

Hahah yeah this is a real boys trip, definately not something (most) girlfriends would be interested in!

Yeah paddle-pop, no manual available to hire - probably a good thing, one less pedal to worry about while driving in a foreign country on the wrong side of the road.

2008 C6 Corvette Engine – A new, 6.2L LS3 small-block V-8 is the standard engine in Coupe and Convertible models. It is rated at 430 horsepower (321 kW)* and 424 lb.-ft. of torque (586 Nm)* with the standard exhaust system; with the new, optional two-mode exhaust system, power ratings increase to 436 horses / 325 kW and 428 lb.-ft. / 592 Nm. As a result, the standard Corvette is true supercar, capable of 190 mph. The LS3 with the six-speed paddle-shift automatic is the fastest automatic-equipped Corvette ever, with 0-60 mph capability of 4.3 seconds.

good luck Dingo

Hope you meet up with some nice locals like that dopey pom in the movie "Love actually"

Budget for some rear tyres in the rental car... you'll fry them by day 3.

And you GOTTA detour to do a track day somewhere.
