Speaking of which, I had a Honda Jazz hire car the other day - why? Cos' that's all that was left......

Anyway there was a notice on the dash saying don't fill the tyres with compressed air as they are filled with Nitrogen. And the valve caps were Red in colour.

I have heard of it before but never come across it until now, someone said it costs $10 to fill one tyre????

Wonder why a Hire car mob are using it then?????

Yeah - that's why I was like WTF man?!?!?!?!?!

The earth's atmosphere is comprised of roughly 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen with a few trace gasses mixed in, so when you fill your tyres with compressed air, you are getting about 78% nitrogen anyway.

So you don't pay to buy the Nitrogen, you pay not to get the other gases.

That's why I pay $15 for a burger, so they don't spit in it.

It is meant to last much longer than normal air in a tire.Apparently the molecules are bigger and they find it harder to make their way out of the tyre, pressure stays more constant. Also it isn't mant to expand as much in heat so when tyres heat up the tyre pressure doesn't change as much. $10 a tyre retail, car hire places wouldn't be paying $10 a tyre though. Probably saves them a maintenance guy as tyres dont need to be done as often. I'm sure they have done their homework.
You can say I'm wrong, but my garage doesn't agree with that statement!!!
