Have you dropped them a line Ash?

Sent them an email last week, basically saying if they wish to subscribe for a commercial licence for the photo then send me $$$.  Got no response, but they've changed the pic for one they flogged from someone else.

Heads-up to the photographers here - this looks like an awesome tool:

http://tineye.com/login

Basically, you upload a photo of yours, and it searches the web for anywhere else that photo might be published.  I'm on the waiting list to try it out.

Just came across this thread, very interesting.

Any news on the tineye website? Did you try it?

It's nice getting yr pics out on the internet, I'm using a flickr account and just 2 days ago I found out about Red Bubble. I'm thinking about maybe getting my own domain and set up a website, just not sure if I can manage creating my own website and if it'll be worth it.

Does anyone have any advice on it?

All depends on what you're actually trying to achieve (branding, exposure, simple maintenance, etc).

If you want everything, then you probably need your own site, plus be creating albums on public shared sites.

Thanks for your comment Shane, what I ultimately would like is to get some good exposure and get my name out. I'd love to do some organised  photoshoots as all the photo's I've taken are cars I happen to run into.

I'll see if I can find the time to create a website, I just dont have too much html knowledge, it would be good in the end. I had a look at your website and it looks great, great site and photo's!

and just to stay on topic, isn't this photo from someone here?

Whilst I'm a software engineer with good web techonologies experience (html, php, perl, blah blah blah), I'm happy to report that your lack of html knowledge is irrelevant for this purpose.

A good content management system and photo gallery software integration, or even just the photo gallery on its own, is all you'd need to get started.

Thanks.

"Funny" one today:

Dude in Perth taking photos off my site, removing the watermark then posting on his Myspace page claiming they are his. On his other page he even claimed he owned some of the cars (they have since been deleted).

Not sure what to do.

Hmm - take screenshots of everything for now, including URL (webmasters can trace this back usually).

Also - why?

Next thing, this is a difference between our watermarks - mine are fairly faint but still obvious, however most of the time I place them strategically so you can't crop out a whole shot of the vehicle without my watermark - look at my pics to see.  99% of the losers who would try to pass off your pics as their own don't have the brains to do anything more than that.

As for what to do... let's brainstorm - it's pretty fucked up. :irked:
