This sounds great, I was enthusiastically into photography earlier this year and It's been on the backburner for a while, I might come out of retirement for this, love a challenge!

Tim.

Now that's a good place to start practising:  http://www.flamestone.com/index.php?option=com_gallery2&Itemid=7&g2_itemId=1405

Anything moving in a straight line is kind of like cheating, but if you can figure a trajectory, then that's really cool.

i dunno about cheating..... Panning is an art form in itself to get right to get sharp photos.....

Panning is great fun, all you need is something moving around you in an arc or just across. Shutter speed is crucial to portray dynamism and energy. With cars and prop planes, you must keep the wheels and props spinning. I use shutter priority of the camera with speeds from 1/15 sec to 1/125sec mostly. The faster the object the higher the speed needed. If you can pan smoothly, the background blur will look creamy with slower shutter speeds. All types of focal length can be used but generally something to zoom in while keeping your distance a bit to the cars or bikes are best.

I will look at my archive and post some examples soon. :D

This is a challenge thread :D - which of your pics do you nominate for entry?

We probably need a thread for panning techniques/camera settings/etc...
