But really - who the hell would have put money on a memory card sloshing around in dirty soapy water for half an hour then bouncing around in a hot tumble dryer for nearly an hour and coming out unharmed???

this was DURING the race.... engine change after 4 hours... and the replacement engine didn't last till midnight...

You need me on the team.  I can see your problem immediately.  There's a human in the engine bay.  See it?

I would have, ive seen those cards perform perfectly after more than an hour submerged!

Nothing wrong with that, although it will give you longer exposures it gives better colour than something higher....... I dont generally shoot above 400.... 800 absolute max if i have to have the shot....
