Naysayers. It's 4K... geehbus. Buy the thing, thrash the crap out of it, tell all the ladies you have a porsche. There is no reason to buy one if you don't want to brag a bit about the badge. What else are you going to get for 4K that's even slightly exciting to punt around?

OMG - I have turned into my Dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like Al said... it's $4k... go for it and have some fun. They're mechanically pretty solid and parts can be found at wreckers pretty cheap if needed. Don't break the rear glass though - you'll double the cost of the car.

DO IT
GO FOR IT

Just make sure you have a bit more cash sitting there to keep it on the road. It will cost more to keep.

If you are spending all you can afford then this is the wrong car for you.
Buy a mitsu mirage, one of the cheepest to maintain, and will hold its resale value.
This will then enable you to save a bit and get a 911

It seems pretty respectable - Flamey go have a look....   :D

yup souns like it, the carsales ad has alittle more info on it.

My dad had one back in the 80's, white 924 with red interior, wonder where its up to these days 23 years on after he sold it.
You can say I'm wrong, but my garage doesn't agree with that statement!!!

I was thinking it would be pretty funny if he never came back after his last reply to Mondi!

Hi All,

Just Joined so I:

Thought I would call in and seek some advice if I may,

Am looking at purchasing a 1979 Porsche 924 5 speed for around $5000 (will get it for less).

It has done 53,000 km - supposedly in very good condition
Sept 2010 rego.

Not interested in the speed thing more interested in a bit of fun and reliability

Your thoughts on this would be appreciated

Rich

ok, well at that age mileage is 100% meaningless. Condition is the most important thing, history would be nice, but again, matters not.

If you're struggling to find the money, run a mile and go buy a hot hatch instead... Pug 205 or the like.

if you've got the money, yeah, dive in.
