from the press release:
Stuttgart. Porsche is sending its second generation of the 911 Carrera GTS to the starting line. Four models – a coupe and a cabriolet, each with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive – now close the gap between the 911 Carrera S and the street-legal sports car optimised for the race track, the 911 GT3.

I agree. I recall reading they are doing this mainly because of the large Chinese market.

Available in Australia from February, the four-tier Porsche 911 Carrera GTS will comprise $268,700 coupe, $289,700 cabriolet, and for the all-wheel drive versions of those variants, $284,100 and $305,300 respectively – all of which are about $13K more expensive than the equivalent Carrera S.

Each price is for the seven-speed manual version, with a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic asking another $7390 in each case.

Could it be better than a Cayman GTS for the extra money?

I think that they are two different cars for two different types of buyers. I had an opportunity to swap my order from a C2S to a Cayman/Boxster GTS but I didn't because I needed 4 seats.

If I was ordering a 911 today I'd go for a GTS.

As it stands though, it isn't compelling enough for me to consider trading up.
