hi tim,

i am replying to your post as someone who has just gone thru the process of looking to buy, then dismissing, the 08 carrera s.

i'd be v careful buying a porsche at the current asking prices. didi u say u're going for the 09 model? lots of marques are depreciating at rapid rates, but porsche owners seem to think this shouldnt affect their cars.

07 R8 V8=150k. 08 Mazza Granturismo = 140k.

i bought a run around 2008 e92 m3 with low kms and a few options for 82.5k. looked at the 2008 carrea s, but at 150k it was a no go. for what you get, after 4 test drives on 4 diff vehices, i cannot see the value in a late midel stock "s" 997 for a cent over 100k

g luck

Where is the R8 for 150K?
A GT is a completely different car even its size is much bigger.

Also the 07 - 08 997s have been 120 - 140 for a while now, I personally see the value in them but it depends on where you drive them.
These cars come alive in the twisty bits and take a bit of time to learn how to drive them.

It took me many months and about 2000 country / hills  kms to start to feel comfortable in my first 911.

good luck with the search

the 911 is more for family outings on the weekend hence why both would be fine.....

  small family?

Get the one you want, you want to sell it in a few years time. The money you risk losing would be much appreciated each time you drive the car you actually preferred

I wouldn't swap one for a 911, but I reckon the e92 M3 is a great buy. With the new model likely to be a six, the V8 M3 is likely to be collectible. It's also a much better drive than the e60 M5 in my view.

Are you looking for a new one if so I would be waiting for the 991 to be released, the 911 is such an evolution that every one is better than the last and from all the c2 and c2s that I have driven they all have a familiar feel to  them, even going back to the 356. They just get faster and more refined with every new release.

One caveat on the 991...it has ELECTRIC steering.

Wait for the reviews and a personal test drive to see if they've cracked it, or fluffed it.

a 2007 r8 with 30 000 kms+ on it sold in NSW pvtely (in August) for $157 500. there was another one listed on car sales, with less kms on the odo, asking 169k d/away. i think the ad has been removed, so prob sold in the 150s d/away. i have no doubt that by xmas there will be a sub 150k sale on tan 07 r8 somewhere in this country. personally, after having driven both the man and auto gearboxes, i wouldnt buy one at 150k.

again, soory to sound the cheap skate, but in the absence of looking at f430s and nre Gs, i couldnt find better value than the m3. but again, i dont have hundreds of thou's to spend.
