I'll buy a manual. I don't give two sh1ts if it's 0.5 seconds slower to 100.

I'm with you. I'll trade 0.5s 0-100kmh on a 3.xs car, for the absolute pleasure of changing my own gears.

I'll ask Scud's question again...have you driven a PDK?

and apart from how good they are, changing gears in traffic is a chore, not a pleasure.

1-2, stop N. 1-2, stop N. 1-2, stop N.
I love my car. Buy your own

each to their own. I just sold a manual car and bought a PDK. I'll never go back.

I've said it before....it just doesn't make sense to me to buy a car bristling with all the latest and greatest technology and performance, only to have it hamstrung by a manual gearbox....and a 6 speed at that!

Maybe you'd like to go back to a hand throttle and manual ignition advance too?

what did you end up buying?

I want the full tactile experience, engagement and involvement when I drive. I don't give a fuck about how stupendously good pdk is, how much faster and more seamlessly it can change gears than I can... I don't give a shit. It cannot, by definition EVER be as involving as a proper manual. How can it? No clutch pedal to operate.  No gate to negotiate. You can't heel/toe. You can't fluff a change because you weren't concentrating.

I'm fully involved every time I change a gear up or down when I drive my sports cars and I LOVE it. If my only intention was to lap a track in the fastest time possible then I'd get a pdk. But if I were doing laps for fun only, I'd still drive a manual only.

As for traffic, I've driven manuals as daily drivers (although not for the last 5 or so years- now I catch the train to work) and it's never bothered me... In fact it keeps me from losing total interest in boring stop/start traffic.  However, if one finds driving a manual tedious in traffic, then obviously pdk is the best option.

This shouldn't be a debate about manual vs. PDK, we should all be thanking Porsche for giving the choice back to the consumer,  we seem to be arguing against the point of three years ago when there was uproar over the loss of the manual and we just about all wanted it back.

Good on Porsche for giving what the consumer wants, even if it is for a hard core and vocal select few, including the motoring press.
