Hi guys,

Just wondering if you could answer some of my questions, cheers.

1. What are the major differences between all the different 996 Carrera models, i.e. 2,4,4s,S, etc?

2. Some 996 Carreras I've seen have amber rear indicators, amber side indicators and amber head light indicators. Some have clear indicators instead of the amber. Could someone please tell me which model year came with the amber and which came with the clear? (refer to picture 1 and 2)

3. In the first picture below, the 996 Carrera has BBS style rims on it. I've seen some Carreras (normal and carbo) with this type of rim, while the majority have the rims in picture 2. Were these BBS style rims a dealer/factory option or did they only come on specific model year Carreras?

All responses greatly appreciated, cheers :)

You want the 03+ cars with the larger capacity engine.  Have a look for RMS (rear main seal) leaks which are quite common in the 996 911 and Boxster's.

I don't believe there is a Carrera S in 996 guise, in the 997 it has a larger capacity engine and more hp.

The 2nd picture is an update model with the Turbo style headlights.

Carrera 2 means 2wd, 4 means 4wd.  The C4S is AWD and is a wide bodied variant like the Turbo, it shares the same body and front bar/spoiler.

Thanks for the reply Ben.

The second picture is actually not the turbo head light face lift. It's the same as the first picture but has clear lights instead of amber lights all around. Which model year had the clear lights? or were they a factory option?

Also, does anyone know the answer to my BBS rims query?

Cheers.

I've got a couple of questions aswell,

First of all, is it worth the extra money to go for the 4s?

And secondly what are peoples opinion on auto vs manual?

cheers

No.

Get the manual, or just grow to accept your ovaries as a natural part of your development.
C'mon, do it!

I have a C2.
4S no I would not go as the 4WD takes away from the fun of having the engine at the back. I also have a subaru and If you wanted a 4WD save your money and get a jap, unless the 911 comes with a turbo. The extra power with the 4WD would be sensational.

C2S is what I should have got.
You get the extra power and wide body looks but keep the rear wheel drive fun.

Auto V Manual
depends how involved you want to be and what type of driving you want to do?
I went Auto, the trans is fantastic for a slush box,

Sounds like Brenton has the 997 C2 though, there was no "C2S" in the 996's.

Get the manual.
