That even applied to new cars...not now though. Completely different situation this time....for reasons I can't explain.

One of the things that ISN'T happening this time is a huge increase in price with the new model...now, if anything, each model seems to get cheaper.

Yes, even new cars (on the face of it) made you money. If it was a business vehicle it created a tax problem :p

In the 80's everything with a dancing donkey badge went nuts, especially when Enzo died. This time around it is only the old stuff that people perceive as collectible that has gone nuts. The one parallel is the top end went up first and dragged the mundane production stuff up with it. Even the relative value ratios between the models are much the same today as they were in the 80's.

It was for sale a few month's ago wasn't it at $320 or so?  Or there was one with identical km for that price.

Probably snap it at ~$300 give or take.

12 months ago it was a $220k car so prices can't have run that fast.
