Did the issue come from the salt on the roads rusting the cars???

Is this as big issues with the more modern cars??

Not really. ..well, not only. Mercedes and Porsche importers were especially critical of non Aussie spec cars, to the extent of placing full page adverts in newspapers. This was decades ago.  The mud still sticks. ... For better or worse.

I agree. And I should add my comments are about imports in general, and Ferraris in particular.
I have no idea about the Prosche market.
But I reckon the same basic principles should apply.
The 997 cars here are cheap and plenty for sale unlike your 355 which i can understand why you bought one in and will be keeping it long term...i would do the same with a Ferrari .But not a Porsche.

Haha! Just noticed your fix Rob. Not aimed at you, just a general comment about how different people value money.

I am lucky to have a very broad spread of friends, from people who have more money than they could possibly ever spend to those who have to watch every cent just to get by.
It gives perspective and shows that there is no blanket answer suitable for everyone when it comes to the questions posed by this thread.

Personal import

thats ok.

My experience with UK imported cars is mainly on RR/Bentleys and E-types years ago, they rust anyway and being a UK 2nd hand car just bought the issue forward faster.

I've noticed a few uk import 997s on carpoint.  What's your thoughts on buying a uk import?  Does anybody know what mods would have to been done for import?  What should I look out for? Or just steer clear? Should they have a discount over aus delivered?  Thanks

Be honest with your reasoning for wanting an import.

If you just want a car, cheap, then fine, do it.

But if you think you can buy it fir cheap, and somehow make it worth Aussie market price, forget it

Simply buy the best car you can afford that you can drive the soonest and enjoy it.

180k here would buy you a FAB car, late model turbo or a GT3 series 2.
