Yeah, go JTD style with wire 15's that stick out the side of the car.

That'll certainly change the gear -> forward movement ratio...

I did look at the Golf R, but would still rather something a little more focused. 

Only other thing i can think that would fit the bill is an M3,  but probably too big and 'family car' ish for my taste.
