does anyone remember the early/mid (?) 80's Australian movie "Freedom"? It was filmed mostly in Adelaide & featured a silver 911

I remember my dad taking us to the drive-in to see it. Anyone have or know where i can get a copy?

it was a good movie from what i can remember, it was 20+ yrs ago i last saw it & i was quite young,

Quote
Unemployed youth, Ron steals a Porsche Turbo and picks up 16 year old Sally at a roadhouse along his route. They are pursued by the police until Ron realises he can not escape them and pushes the car over a cliff.

directed by Scott Hicks too

a few (fuzzy) memories i have of the movie are

Jon Blake "test driving" a Triumph Stag from a car yard near Scotty's motel to follow the 911, then slides it around a corner crashing it, he then jumps out & runs away, leaving a stunned salesman sitting in the car

the 911 racing an XC Falcon Cobra up the freeway

and the end of the movie when he pushes the 911 over a cliff  :(

where's Waz? he must remember the movie  :)

Not at all. Sorry. I've never been a fan of Australian movies from that era - apart from 'Maslins Beach' and 'Alvin Purple'.  :D.

I remember the movie. Mate of my brothers was the mechanic for the movie. He wanted to swap the Turbo engine for a dummy for the scene when the car was pushed off the cliff but the director said he wanted to make sure no one would pick it so he said no and the Turbo was pushed off complete.

Freedom! Yay! Another one of those 1980's SAFC tax dodge movies. I liked it because it was so tacky, and because it was filmed in Adelaide. I've not seen it in years, I'd imagine Scott Hicks may have burnt all the prints. Unfortunately the servo where it was filmed down at Henley Beach was demolished and replaced with a new corporate style box.

It's not a good movie by any stretch, just another fun Australian oddity. Just love all those dodgy 1970's and 80's Australian movies, like Freedom, End Play, The Cars That Ate Paris. :-)
