Been hunting around for a 997 GT3. An 07 model would go for around $140k (08 for $150k?), and a '10 997.2 would probably go for $200-210k range. I've spoken to 2 people who tell me that the 997.2 is not worth the extra $50-60k, despite it being a younger car. But research on the Porsche forums show the opinions split.. I've made offers for both models last week, which have been knocked back  but am starting to think I shouldn't bother with the 997.2, cuz even if it's a younger car that's a bit better looking, the 997.1 apparently will handle just as well with less depreciation hit and lower upfront costs...

Still favoring the 997.2 though...it is newer after all.. plus the rear wing spoiler looks heaps better :D

Any thoughts?

What are you planning to do with the car mate? Presumably lots of track time?
C'mon, do it!

absolutely. I stopped wanting to track my turbo when I found out the costs of the ceramic discs, so i have a lot of track time to catch up to :D

the 997.2 have comfier race seats than the 997.1, but am thinking I could install after market seats of my choosing anyway.

lap times at track isn't too far apart from what I've been told. Malalla would be 1 sec, and PI would be 2 sec tops apparently. This is from a guy who's had both and tracked at both tracks.

this would also be my first manual gearbox car.. so perhaps if i'm still learning how to clutch, heel-toe etc etc.. better go for the cheaper option isn't it.

but.. the 997.2 just looks nicer.. lower kms, younger and all that thing, is probably worth $30k more ($10k per year?)? but am not too sure if $60k more is worth it....

I'd go for the cheaper option for lots of track time, then invest some of the difference in good tyres, a good suspension setup and a proper harness (when you're strapped in tight you'll hardly feel the seat anyway).

yea I agree... just an emotional thing I guess about the newer car.

Both will make you happy   :)

You'll hit the same point everyone here does ... you'll improve your racecraft enough that a minor upgrade in car does no good, and you'll need a racecar!   :D

The 997.2 are my favourite after seeing the LCD brake force light show of one at mallala.

I would go with the later/better car. You'll always wish you got it.

What is this?

The only time I used more than 25% of my brakes the car felt like it nearly flipped.
