The Oz government are very strict on the personal import route.  You have to own the car at least 12 months to go this route.  Remembering if you leave the Uk for a holiday then this does not count.  I supplied 50 pages of supporting evidence to Canberra, as I travelled pretty much every second week.  PI was approved in 3 days.  The whole PI process is very simple and straightforward.  Also a cost effective way of having a nice car in Oz for not much money.

Problem is that in your situation you have no car and as such there is no cheap alternative to importing it.
