They are cheap because they are a compromised car

The pecking order is something like this

911 Manual Coupe
911 Auto Coupe
911 Conv Manual
911 Conv Auto

The only reason the 4S fetch a high price is because they have the turbo body and look better then the standard 996 coupe and because they cost significantly more new.

A manual cab would still be a much better car to drive than a tip coupe.
Why such a long face?

I drive a lotus with factory hard top fitted. Never driven it sans roof, and if lotus offered a proper coupe version of the Elise, that's what I would have bought. Plus the chassis of the lotus is so stiff due to its design/construction that the lack of roof is not an issue for torsional rigidity, unlike conventional cars.

Have always loved the look of the 997.1 Carrera coupe for some reason. Thought about a 996 or 997.1 GT3 but I'm keeping the Lotus and I need a back seat for family drives. Plus, I have no need for two hardcore two-seaters at the moment because space is a major issue for me (as is time). Down the track (pardon the pun) things might change (hope to have more time and storage space), but at that point, I'll be getting a 2.2 or 2.4 911 E or T and a 65 Mustang fastback.

I to like the look of the 997.1. I would get the s just for the wider rear end look.

Makes sense about "family" car  :thumbsup:

A manual cab would still be a much better car to drive than a tip coupe.


I thought the tip in the 996 was quite nice, it did what it claimed to and did it well.
I never felt it detracted from the driving experience

Yeah, 997.1 Carrera just floats my boat out of all the modern ones. :) that and the 964 C2.

No rear seats in any GT3, touring or club sport? Have thought about possibility of fitting rear seats to a 997.1 GT3, but at the moment don't have the time or inclination to muck around. Also, wouldn't really utilize the GT3's capability with the family on board, if you know what I mean, and I already have one sports car that I don't have time to drive the way it was intended to be driven.
