STAR Group officers converged on a house in Aberfoyle Park yesterday, following the discovery of a stolen red Porsche that had been involved in high-speed chases.

Police questioned three men and a woman who were at the Allman Crescent property where the car, a 1989 Porsche 928, was found. Police did not charge any of the people questioned, but are seeking a fifth person who was not at the scene.

Chief Inspector Grant Moyle said there was an "ongoing investigation" into the stolen Porsche and a "male person of interest".

He refused to comment on why STAR Group involvement was needed, but confirmed that the situation had been deemed "high risk". The car, which was hidden in the backyard of the house, was stolen on March 27.

Since then, more than 10 sightings throughout metropolitan Adelaide were reported to police.

The day after it was stolen, its owner saw it in Mile End.

"The car was involved in some short pursuits on (Wednesday) afternoon, but those pursuits were terminated due to the conditions," Chief Inspector Moyle said.

Neighbours had seen the Porsche in the street on previous occasions.

One neighbour, Alan Piening, said his eight-year-old daughter was in the backyard when Star Group officers stormed through.

He said his daughter ran inside and said "there's a man in the backyard with a gun". Mr Piening said his daughter was "crying her eyes out".

Police later apologised for not warning the family.
