Maybe you've just forgotten what you are missing.  Porsches have the best manual boxes in the world.

I have a manual car in my 308 GTB; but since it has been out of action for 18mths plus, maybe you are right :(

Aside from a minor ratio issue on the 981s id agree, tactile, direct and a joy to use.

You say that, but for me so far below 5000rpm the ratios are absolutely fine.  No doubt it is different above 5k.  But overall the way the box feels is absolutely fantastic.

I found my NA mx5 had a better shifting gear box

That's comparing it to a 996
