You still haven't made it but at least you can afford to put a roof over your head. :)

If I am ever in a position to afford a $100k + car I will consider I have made it, even if those more fortunate look down upon me with contempt. Boxsters are awesome cars, Caymans even more so. Would be proud to own either and couldn't care less what others think!!! ;-)

You have been here long enough to read through the bullshit and relax.

Also what car you drive actually has nothing to do with "making it or not"

the 100k car is not a measure - I was merely trying to convey that I set my goals based on me, not others achievements or their opinion of me. To me, in my context a $100k car would be a pretty big deal and indicative of a reasonable broader financial positon. Having said that,  I'd give up any possession if it meant more time in the Mentawais chasing perfect waves...which incidentally is where I'll be in June!
Sorry if the tone in my post was narky, wasn't intended.
All hugs and high fives around here!

If you've bought a home and have the mortgage under control THEN you've made it

what if the mortgage is well under control, the 100k car is in the garage, theres cash in the bank but no desire to spend it, you take multiple overseas trips a year and yet the only number in your phone is yourown in case you forget it?

Alas, heres not the place
you cant buy happiness though, this is for certain

I bought a Cayman S in 2007 and a GTR in 2010. Both brand new - and cost much the same. If I did that today, the GTR would be $40-50k more expensive.

The GTRs a great car but the Cayman S is not too shabby either - bargain IMO.
