Rare Porsche 356C Cabriolet sells at Adelaide auction for $330,000

A CAR with no bluetooth, climate control or airbags sold for the price of an apartment at auction on Sunday.

The 1964 convertible sports car does boast the badge of the world-famous car manufacturer Porsche, which contributed to its $330,000 selling price.

The rare mint-condition SA-owned Porsche 356C Cabriolet was the subject of intense bidding before falling under the hammer to a Queensland man who phoned in his bid.

The Porsche was one of 11 cars auctioned in Adelaide by du Plessis International in front of about 100 car buyers and enthusiasts.

They included a 1923 Belgium built Minerva (sold for $210,000), three Ford Mustangs and a 1970 Plymouth “Superbird’’ Roadrunner (passed in).

Auctioneer Mark du Plessis was satisfied with the auctions overall but “very happy’’ with the price fetched by the Porsche Cabriolet.

“The buyer was definitely a car enthusiast and I’m sure he will have a lot of fun in that car,’’ Mr du Plessis said.

“To have cars of this rarity and quality (for auction) in SA is very rare.’’

Mr du Plessis said buyer of classic cars were driven by “passion’’.



“There is a lot of emotion involved in cars but they also make a good investment if you pick the right car.’’
