based on your comments Mark, I think the discount on the Porsche needs to be bigger than 'mates rates'??  ;)

Mods, delete this thread.  I have a sucker buyer for my car.  Oh, hang on - too late.  :p

Can u swap for an auto tranny?

Well, it's possible but unlikely.  Can't work out those funny buttons.

So only one pair of rims has been swapped?

I'll have a stab now. On the sweeping corners does the pitch of the noise or feel of the vibration change? Just the noise/sensation increasing with speed points to wheel bearing/s to me, same with the intensification of the noise under load, and the reduction when unloaded.

Although I would have thought they would have checked the play in all the wheel bearings once it was found that swapping the wheels/tyres didn't fix the problem.

I've never experienced a failed or noisy wheel bearing that causes a vibration.

I've seen wheels virtually hanging off through bearing failure, but still they don't vibrate.

You also get bad brake knock off, as the brake discs knock the pads back into the caliper.... which Mark has not got.

Thanks everyone for the input. (well, most of you)

If they give me the car before the weekend, we'll have an all-in amateur hour diagnostic session on Sunday.  Even if we don't find what the problem is, we'll have some fun looking.   I'll supply the soft drinks.
