Later in the year I am considering buying a used Porsche. I want something that can be driven everyday but still deliver a rewarding experience.

I am considering either an 1987 or later 911 or a Boxster. The budget may be around $60k.

What would you look for and why?

My Heart says a Lamborghini Jalpa but my head says Porsche.

Yeah leave the Jalpa - I called dibs. :D

*IF* I was looking at a Porsche, I would go for a classic 911 which look better everyday, the Boxster...  sure it goes great, but it's the red-headed step-child of Porkers.

Pointless question. What I would buy most likley has no relevance to what you would buy.

Best advise is to drive as many as you can and buy what YOU like.

Ash's comments on the Boxter are not really correct either. They're a very good car compared to 98% of other traffic.

Yes they are, they "go great".

I was comparing to other Porsches.

The Boxter is still better than most 911's pre 964 (that's a version of the dropped egg), but they're still depreciating and will continue to do so for many years yet. Boxters in the UK have been one of the better cars for depreciation for a few years not but the bottom has finally fallen out of the market. There was over 1200 Boxters for sale on one car sales website in December with cars for sale below Au$25K.

"Better" is hard to quantify, modern Commodores are probably better than an old 911 to most people.  The "red-headed step-child" comment is more to their perception as far as Porkers go.

Fixed.  :D

That's why I recomended driving as many as he can. I'd be looking for something completely different if it was my $60k.
