Look what's going up in Victoria Park

THE Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar racing carnival is four months away but construction of track buildings in Victoria Park is beginning early.

Workers have started breaking up existing concrete to make way for footings for the new temporary garage and grandstand building.

Clipsal 500 publicity manager Mike Drewer yesterday said construction was going to plan on the new footings for the new temporary building which, for the first time, would be covered with shadecloth.

Victoria Park last week was included in the National Heritage listing of the Parklands. The Adelaide Parklands Preservation Society last week suggested to The Advertiser that under the listing, the building of a permanent grandstand – proposed by the State Government but opposed by the Adelaide City Council – would have been difficult.

The Federal Government maintains the listing is not intended to restrict development in the parklands.

The grandstand's six-month construction period replaces the former 10-week set-up cycle.

AT THE 2009 CLIPSAL 500 ADELAIDE
 
Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines exotic car show returns to the Clipsal 500 Adelaide
after its spectacular introduction at this year’s event.
 
The show, where the world’s most expensive and exotic super road cars are not only on
exhibit, but are driven on the circuit each day in high speed displays, was another world
first for the Adelaide event.
 
In 2009 the line-up of Supercars valued at millions of dollars is already highly impressive
featuring the following with more to come:

• Pagani Zonda
• Ferrari F50
• Ferrari 430
• Porsche GT
• Maserati GTS
• Aston Martin DB9
• Aston Martin Vantage

‘We have been told that Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines is the only concept in the
world where people can not only see these cars close-up, but also watch and hear them
perform at speed’, Clipsal 500 Adelaide Chief Executive Jason Allen says.
 
International motoring icon Murray Walker, after whom the display is named, will be
present at the special display area on circuit at various times to meet members of the
public.
 
‘We have a special facility to house this collection of cars and the great thing is that it is
open to all Clipsal 500 Adelaide patrons, whether they be general admission,
grandstand, or corporate ticket holders, Jason Allen adds.
 
Mr. Allen said that for the 2008 event a number of people flew from interstate just to see
the Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines collection.
 
The Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines collection will perform on the circuit every day
of the 2009 event, while the exhibit will be open to patrons when the vehicles are not on
track.         
 
The Clipsal 500 Adelaide, Round One of the 2009 V8 Supercars Australia Championship
Series, is to be staged from 19-22 March.
