Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally is proud to announce a huge boost to the running of the 2009 event with two local South Australian companies signing on as naming rights sponsors.

The committee is delighted to announce that joining asp for 2009 is Cut Price Truck Rentals / Koala Car Rentals, located on Sir Donald Bradman Drive in Mile End.  Owner Brenton Griguol was keen to see the event grow after competing in the event last year.  Brenton was enthusiastic on his reasons for sponsoring the event and commented he “wanted to help out a local club” and “support grass roots motor sport” as his main reason for sponsorship of the 2009 event.

ASP – Application Service Provider were quick to carry on with their support of the event and signed on two weeks after the running of the event in June, 2008.  Andrew Admiraal said, “This will be the 4th year running that asp have been involved with the Rally and the Southern Districts Car Club.  The decision to continue with sponsorship was an easy one as we have had nothing but the utmost respect for the event organisers and the Southern Districts Car Club. Their culture, their focus on excellence, their commitment to all aspects of safety, their dedication to the development of junior drivers and of course the excitement and fun that all comers experience, embody the values that asp adhere to.

The asp Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally has become a highly respected fixture in the motor sport calendar with competitors all over Australia keenly participating and enjoying not only the event, but also the hospitality of the organisers, the officials, and the team at Penny’s Hill Winery, where the event is based.”

With a solid competitor base already established and deposits for the 2009 event already rolling in, the event looks certain to be a highlight for Tarmac competitors.  Tony Parkinson owner of Penny’s Hill Winery is once again supporting the event and will allow the event to have use of the wineries picturesque grounds for the weekend, providing a superb location for the events Headquarters and Service Park.

Michael Clements, the Clerk of Course for the rally, along with the organising committee, are eagerly looking forward to improving and extending the rally into a two-day event, and have penciled in May 30th & 31st 2009 (subject to CAMS and local Council approval).  Michael said, “It was a fantastic start to the planning of the event, having two outstanding local companies providing their support to the event”.  Stage Sponsorship is also progressing steadily with Lynas Auto Group, Southern Vales Tinting, Perkins Auto Repairs and Power Motorsport/Event Power and Light already signed on and providing their support for the 2009 event.

Another new initiative this year is the new, easy to use Website.  Designed by Shane Grocke from asp, the website has further information on, competing – including the registration of interest and the deposit form for 2009, officiating, and 2009 sponsorship opportunities.  For further information, please visit:  http://www.asprally.com

The Mount Alma Mile

As a precursor to the 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally, the organising committee have announced the inaugural running of the asp Mount Alma Mile Hill Climb.  Designed as a “shake down” opportunity for competitors of the 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally this event also offers anyone with a safe and road worthy car, a helmet, an interior mounted fire extinguisher plus the love of all things motoring, to have the chance to test their skills on a closed and controlled section of one of South Australia’s most invigorating stretches of road.

The asp Mount Alma Mile Hill Climb will give both experts and novices alike the opportunity to test their mettle on a challenging and difficult piece of tarmac and the headache of an ascent of some 19 degrees keeping speeds in check.  The location is an idyllic setting for spectators to view some spirited hill climb competition; it’s close to Victor Harbour and a pleasant drive from the Adelaide CBD.

And as the competitors of the 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally clear both their own and their vehicles cobwebs and the support crews hone their skills on the Mile Hill Climb, the organising committee and officials will use the opportunity to bed down and double check procedures and processes for the new electronic timing equipment that will be used for the big event on May 30th and 31th 2009.  It also allows for the assessment  of competitors times for seeding purposes for the 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally.

The asp Mount Alma Mile Hill Climb offers an excellent opening for the support of Cure4CF by the 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally.  Michael Clements, Clerk of Course for both events, has confirmed that part proceeds from the Mile Hill Climb will go to Cure4CF. Michael has also offered spirited rides in official course vehicles for CF sufferers that are able to attend the event, with a schedule that will hopefully enable all comers to have a ride while still maintaining the management controls required for CF.  Special thanks must go to the Ashby family, who have the land holdings surrounding the stretch of tarmac that will be used, as they have been extremely supportive of the event and are providing areas for use throughout the two days.

The inaugural asp Mount Alma Mile Hill Climb has been scheduled for the 18th and 19th of April, 2009 (subject to CAMS and local council approval).

Application Service Provider (asp) and Cut Price Truck Rentals proudly presenting the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally

The 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally Supplementary Regulations have been approved by CAMS and have been released to all prospective competitors as of Monday 10th of March, 2009.

The “Supp Regs” and Entry Form can now be found at www.asprally.com

On Saturday, the 30th of May 2009, 80 open competitors and 20 SA Rally Championship competitors will run 10 stages through the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula and Sunday, the 31st of May 2009 the action moves a little closer to Adelaide with 80 competitors running 10 stages though the Southern Vales – 130 kilometres of spirited driving for cars and teams.

The asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally in its third year, is now a favourite among tarmac rally competitors around Australia, and is now for the first time a two day event.

Last year’s event, won by Steve Glenney and Bernie Webb, attracted 50 entries from across Australia.

Entries for this year’s precursor event, the asp Mount Alma Mile Hill Climb filled only three weeks after entries opened and the complete competitor list will be released early next week.

The 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally is shaping up to be similarly jam-packed with many pre-registrations already taken - drivers wishing to enter should do so promptly to avoid disappointment.

We suspect that the ASP tarmac will also have too many entries like Mt Alma has..   You dont want to miss out!  Looks at this stage like around 100 could miss out on Mt alma as the entries are still coming in!

Just looking at the website
unless im missing something, it doesnt actually mention where the rally will be held
I gather it will be held around mclaren vale based on the place listed as rally hq
I can also see on the residents page some road closure details
however I cannot find where the stages will be held, maps, times etc.

Id like to go and have a look but need to know when to be where

Also (since im now complaining), you might want to update the mount alma part on the main page, since its not clear this has already been on, theres no date mentioned on that posting

RECONNAISSANCE VIDEOS NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE

2009 ASP / CUT PRICE ADELAIDE HILLS TARMAC RALLY

Application Service Provider (asp) and Cut Price Truck Rentals proudly presenting the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally

In what is believed to be a world first, organisers of the asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally have produced reconnaissance videos of every stage of the event, and made them available online to competitors and anyone else that may be interested.

The videos will let drivers and co-drivers, as well as officials and spectators, familiarise themselves with the roads that will form the competitive stages of the rally, being run on May 30th & 31st.  For interstate competitors without local knowledge of the areas the videos may help level the playing field, as many of them will have limited opportunities to actually drive the roads before competing on them.

Organisers are also hoping that the videos will reduce the impact of the rally on local residents by reducing the number of times competitors drive the stages before the event.

All of the videos can be viewed at www.asprally.com, and have been filmed at or below the legal speed limit, whilst driving for the conditions and obeying all applicable road rules.
