Has anyone owned / driven a 996 series Carrera Cup car? Early ones look to be in my price range, and I wouldn't mind getting back into a Porsche on the track.

Any thoughts?

I haven't, but I know people who have....and they're bloody fast and not too expensive to run. Finding a good one would be hard, I imagine.

One guy I know said that to be fast in them, you really need to  be very rough and aggressive. Not like any other car to get the most out of. Mind you, he's usually running near the back of the field, but I'm sure it's not as easy as it looks.

I love my car. Buy your own

Fantastic cars when running right. But costs to run are another league.

Also, the cheaper ones especially but all of them really, are likely to need a thorough inspection to work out damage history. Lots of re shells and patched up cars out there

Thanks - tried to find it from the previous posts but had no luck.

I'm going to line up some drive days over the next few months to try some of the short-list for myself. Have contacts for Formula Ford and the Radical days, just need to find someone who does the same with the Formula 3.  I was looking at doing Porsche's Cup Car day at Qld Raceway but I suspect the current gen 997 Cup cars are so far ahead of the 996s I could afford that it wouldn't make a fair comparison.

Forget F3 cars. Way too serious and hard core for toy status.

New gen fford, called ffour has slicks and wings AND is current should you decide to go racing.

Assuming you mean this one - http://www.britishformulaford.co.uk/2013-season/the-car/ - it looks great and very attractive specs too.

Any idea of cost? I can't find any details on new chassis prices and can't see any for sale in the UK second hand sites?
