Once the R-EX finally arrived we decided to take it to Mallala with the F430 in a state round, both Tim and I shared the driving of each starting from pitlane, justin Mc was kind enough to fly arron over from NZ for the weekend to teach us and BRM on the how to's and how not to's on the Lambo. Given we had a minor oil issue with the 430 at the GP it was decided not to run it on the this particular Sunday.
It was running rough, BRM pulled the engine down and a cylinder was rooted of sorts. The decision was made to replace said piston and liner and it should be together next week.
When the 430 was purchased we were told that its a bespoke racing car, nothing could be further from the truth. it still has the road car wiring in it unlike the cup cars and the engine is a road engine that is identical to a maserati QP (and previous posts would show my love of the QP...NOT)
Credit should be given to Ferrari for bamboozling people into thinking their product is unique, its not. The piston and liner is 600.00 dearer than the QP, if we needed to change the crank shaft its 10k US and the QP is 1800.00 US for the same part number in a different box. attached are some running photos of the engine.

The bottom photo is funny given it was the final lap of Clipsal on the Saturday and the poor old sick 430 in front the array of 2 plus million dollar machinery

I did not know about the new lambo bravo , have you still got the 360?? did it make it up on the wall??

That is rather disappointing on some levels but also rather good / cheaper that it is not all bespoke parts.

Is this level of rebuilding normal on these cars?
you seem to be constantly having a battle with keeping the cars circulating with reliability?? Or do I only hear of these stories and you are not reporting about the great days??

The only thing the bottom picture is missing is an overlay of you doing your flying bird pose.

P.S. did you work out why your solar panels were not coming on till 10am ish??

360 is still sitting garaged up, entered into AMF along with 430, F3 and Lola in the F1 category.

The 430 and 360 are reliable given their age, I finally listened to Roger he is correct, a newbie race car......and the Lambo in his words is more german than italian....hence the fact you won't find magneti marelli gremlins.

The solar panels are fine, there is an earth leakage that no one can find, if there is a hint of evening condensation the system needs a reboot in the morning, happened a few times over winter, now in spring they fire up ok.

Had a shit fight with SA Power Networks because our J meter at night didn't consume any power and they thought I/ we had tampered with the meter. Discovered that the APN outdoor sign above the panels is strong enough to fire up the system at night with just a trickle and the trickle of power made actually is more than the consumption....hence the credit in evening solar generation. They didn't believe me until they met with me one night and saw the inverter actually working.
