One of the good things about insuring with Shannons is that they covered the car if used in the non-competitive sections of CA.  No longer.  Now Racing cover has to be applied for - don't know what this costs yet.

Classic Adelaide won't be happy about this.  It will knock a big hole in Thoroughbred Touring entries I reckon.

Personalised letter from Shannons to policy holders.

All motorsport is now excluded from standard cover and specific cover for comp events must be applied for and will be offered at Shannons' discretion - at extra cost.

I wonder if CGU did the same thing as I got a bill from them for 09/10 and it was 1k less than 08/09

Sadly, Shannons are no longer insuring cars in Classic Adelaide's Thoroughbred Touring (non-competitive but 130km/h allowed) category under existing comprehensive policies.  They offered me only $20K insurance cover  for the event under their racing policy with a $2700 excess.  No third party property so if you hit another car or something else expensive, this isn't covered either.  I don't think I'm brave enough to run the 911 without insurance - it would take the fun out of it for one thing.

I can't say I blame them and I'm sure they've had some big claims which have brought this on but it will make it hard to fill places in this category.  Sad news for my nav too.  :(

I assume the next category up has also got no cover?

no third party means you will need to be super careful.

bummer.

dare i ask - are any of the national rallies covered?

I don't have the letter with me but I recall it said something like "events such as CA".  If CA isn't covered, you can bet none of the rallies will be.  It is certain that any competitive categories aren't covered under normal policies and will require Racing Cover.

It might be time for a cheaper car for the event - MX5 or GTI perhaps?  :p

Don't laugh. Some friends who had entered their Vantage in the TT section, have bought a manual Jaguar XJS "junker" for CA this year instead.

It's all downhill from here.
