The car ran perfectly all the while up until first start up this morning... where it fired up with a misfire....

I was called and got ready to go out with tools and parts but then it just as mysteriously cleared itself after a stage or two and all is well again!

ahhh.... does that sticker on the side say "Magnetti Marelli" or "Magical Mystery"  :scratchchin:

Close. The alternator packed it in 600m into stage 8. Recovery only took 6.5 hours to get them and the car back to the Silverdome. Pretty bad service for such a well run event. Prior to that, they'd gone from 26th in class in the prologue to 7th in class after stage 7. The car was running perfectly prior to that. Oh well, there's always next year for the boys.

FF, the Gilliver car looked and ran well during the time we were there. He's a nice guy too.

Damn those alternators! We USED to feed atletrnators to 360C's like we did tyres and fuel.... Been sorted for a while now though. Only had 2 failures in the last 35000km of track work.

Thanks yeah, Gilliver car gets a bit of love.... it had a mysterious hiccup as I said already, but cleared itself. he's hit a bank now too, but it shrugged it off.

Yeah, he's a top bloke... Incredible brain... knows so much about EVERYTHING that guy! True genius/eccentric.

There is talk of "upgrading" the alternator on the 360C to a Porsche 996 GT3 Cup car. It would probably be cheaper and easier than fixing the 360C but it wouldn't be as much of challenge to finish the event.

he can't be serious to buy a cup car and enter a road rally, surely?   :doh:

i suggest a drive in a cup car first, that idea will disappear very very quickly.

it can't be done, nor be safe or feasible.
