1. all cars fitted with roll cages must have both driver and co driver wear helmets even in transport stages
2. if temp exceeds 38 degrees event to be deferred.
3. instead of drink bottles all vehicles without drink holders to be fitted with "camel backs"
4. all cars in comp section to have fire bombs fitted.
5. all cars in comp to have external pull cord for cutting off power.

these are just some that will come out in the coronial enquiry and will be presented to CAMS.

might be a stupid question.... but why dont race cars have airbags?

i can think of a couple reasons but none that couldnt be ironed out.
im sure it would be impossible for most to retrofit but for newer cars maybe not.

david, an airbag would have done bugger all to car 505.

the early porsches (some of) are running reto fitted ABS......which is banned from Targa tas 2010, the  algorithm  is 52 characters long which means if it fails...good luck

Seat harness prevents forward movement, bag not necessary and they have to be disarmed before the event

Does this imply that some of the findings have related to heat exhaustion?

questions i have are,
how long into the stage was the accident?
which stage of the day?
how long since the end of the previous competition stage?
how long in time and journey was the tpt stage prior to the fatal comp stage?

in tas targa i think there was only one occasion where you would finish one stage, leave your helmet on and pretty much start the next stage within a few minutes.

i cannot comment on any of the above, unless one was present they have no idea of the situation

the questions were in general, not pointed at one individual.

As it was a ridiculously hot day, heat exhaustion as a possible reason was widely speculated by other drivers in other categories of the event. I certainly asked that question to two of the professional race car drivers that I met and both thought it was unlikely, which surprised me. I've never driven in a 60c cabin but have played golf in 42c which almost knocked me out.. hence I would have thought the former would be much worse.

Whether or not it was one of the reasons we'll have to wait for the experts formal report. However, would you other professional and competitive drivers out there agree with the proposal to defer an event due to temp? In your experience does it significantly affect your capability?
