Very good friend of mine in an Evo played at that burrows day out.....He actually knocked off a second from his PB.

Lucky the organisers didn't notice him timing the event, otherwise they would have given him the boot on the day.
C'mon, do it!

Ewwweh...  didn't think of that at first.

evo_rex, you might have just dropped your very good friend in it.  Maybe the people that read this forum also won't be able to figure which Evo you're referring to.

What about with personal telemetry devices - eg even iPhones have apps now for logging laptimes and speeds and G's and all that gear.

Nope.  They're VERY clear about absolutely no timing.  And they make sure you pass that on to all guests to, just in case they were thinking of timing from behind the fence on your behalf.

I'm guessing it's insurance related.

Edit:  take a look at 3 out of 4 of the bolded text:  http://www.eventsoneill.com/Home/Drive-Days/Burrows-Drive-Days

You can have any kit you like, you just can't be caught using it.

Lots of the cars have very full-on data acquisiton but using it, or other timing devices, or your mate behind the pit barriers with the stopwatch is something that freaks out the organisers bigtime. From what they've explained, if there's timing the day is treated as a 'race' event rather than an advanced driving day. That invalidates the organiser's insurance, and may well invalidate personal insurance on the cars (though I'd hate to test the coverage).

There were at least 3 really going for it, so I couldn't guess which one he was!
