Sounds like they're getting organised...

The Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce and the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries have announced that from this year forward, the venue for Australia’s premier auto show will alternate between Sydney and Melbourne.

To be managed as a joint venture between the VACC and the FCAI, the new Australian International Motor Show should prove more enticing to auto makers. Under the old model of two major auto shows per year, many marques chose to shun either the Sydney or Melbourne events (or both) in order to keep PR spending down.

“The new model is viable and sustainable and takes into account the views of the many vehicle brands who considered the proliferation of motor shows in Australia as being too costly,” FCAI Chief Executive, Andrew McKellar said.

Last year’s Sydney Show was particularly lacklustre, as many brands voted with their feet and elected to confine their show presence to the bigger Melbourne International Motor Show. Consequently the Sydney event was axed for 2009, however New South Welshmen will play host to a Motor Show once again come 2010, when the first joint FCAI/VACC event will be held in Sydney.

The 75th Melbourne International Motor Show - which runs from February 27 to March 9 this year - will be the last solo show, and given that the 2009 Adelaide motor show and the 2009 Brisbane motor show have been cancelled it will likely be the only major Australian event for the year.

Dates for the new jointly-presented auto shows have yet to be announced, however a more detailed announcement is expected soon.

Excellent, good to see organisers collaborating but given the current climate i wouldn't be surprised if heaps of brands skip it anyway
