hey Ash can we make location a compulsory requirement please?

Just had a thought - I could probably set it up to reverse check the IP address that someone posted from and include that information in the post itself :scratchchin:

eg, here's a couple IP addresses of some visitors who are here at the moment:

http://geotool.servehttp.com/?ip=58.168.111.166
http://geotool.servehttp.com/?ip=203.59.30.142

Interesting idea, but naaaah.

edit: I've made it so that if there's no location info added it displays "Unknown"

How do I find my own IP?  Does it change every time I use the net?

How do you know the guests are not members who haven't signed in?   How do you know the 3500 visits are not the same people revisiting?

How do I know when I'm asking too many questions in one post?

Depends who you're with, it's yes and no, most of the time it's usually very similar to a previous session.

There's no real 100% way of telling, hence why when I'm quoting stats I say "visits" rather than "visitors" most of the time.

Here's the stats for last month according to AwStats - I have a few stats packages and I usually sort of average out or take the most seemingly relevant numbers, should be able to figger out most of it from there, lemme know anything that's not clear:

what's the difference between a visit and a hit?  Search engine results?

Nothing to do with search engines.

A visit is a user session, and a hit is a file delivered to the user, a unique visitor is obviously one person.  On a single page there may be dozens/hundreds of "hits" because of all the different files that are downloaded as part of that page.

Think of it in terms of say going to a car yard:

Unique Visitor = you
Visit = you going to the dealer, note, you can leave the dealer and come back later on - this is another "visit"
Hit = all the cars you can see when you walk in
Pageview = checking out an individual car

It's not a great analogy, but mostly workable.  Gazillions of info through googling if you're really interested.
