Customs have lists of various dealers and specialists to call when they have a query.

Ok, so does the custom's value not have anything at all to do with what you actually paid or the market value? Particularly if there isn't a market value like a glass 308 or a 328 GTB? Where do they get the figure?

Hi All,

Australian Customs often request proof of purchase.   After we have lodged the N 10 entry,  Customs will then contact us if they do not agree with the value , and request we ask the importer to provide bank statements showing transfer of funds...

If they do not agree with the value / bill of sale provided , they will then ask for an independent valuation,
the cost can be as much as $ 400.00 to $ 500.00 for this service.

cheers

if its a common car o/s and there are barely any in aus, then i would assume a valuation would be based on market value in that country...

Yes, but who does the independant valuation? What if you don't agree with what they come up with?

Various people.

I think 3 independant valuations are sought generally.

OK let's try these then:

275 GTB/4
288 GTO
LP 400

Let's see how many 'specilaists' can value these if you inherited them from an old Aunt who died recently.
