Take a sports car and make it sportier - that makes sense. Take a big GT and make it sportier - that makes less sense. I think I prefer the original.

I wonder whether the 3 slashes on the rear guard ala 250GT0 are functional or whether they are just a stylistic homage to the old car.

I hope the former rather than the latter because to the that's the only element of the design that looks a bit..."tacked on"...
