Door #1 - buy the damn maps

Door #3 - mondi comes around and gives you oral directions....

OK - this is what I have been told from a pretty reliable source:

Even if you had the disk's it wouldn't matter two shits.....

You need a license number when you install the maps(it has to been entered when the maps are loaded), this license number is registered against the cars VIN.
So you can't use just anyone's.....

You will have a very hard time finding a hacked version that works, let's face it, how many people are gunna want it in the first place.....

So if you want the On board Sat Nav to work, bend over and grab your ankles!!!!!

for the second time; i have a tom tom, i still think 599 is a rip off so i'm looking for alternatives.

there is a difference between me asking you what you drive and you proffering to me your bonehead opinions....can you work it out amgsl - probably not, because it requires an understanding of basic manners.

fucks sake, if you have a tom tom and you dont want to spend $599 get a garmin then, or if thats too much theres always a totally thief safe......

There is only one option left. Sell the car and buy a new one. You will get the new map disc for free then.

Correct me if I am wrong but I'm guessing your Porsche uses a DVD for its gps maps. If so you have two alternatives, you can 'borrow' a disk from someone who has it then make a 'backup' and put it in your car. Making this 'backup' is not easy you will probably need someone to do it for you. The downside would be you might have a potential problem if Porsche sees you have a bootleg DVD.
From time to time these DVD's pop up one ebay and sell for around $250 ish from what i can remember and most of the times they are old eg.2005.
You could steal someone elses DVD, it is also possible to randomly scratch a dvd and for the gps maps to appear on it(i worked out the probability of this before) the downside is you have a bigger chance of winning the next 1500 lotteries.
Your final option is to buy it, you can always sell it on ebay in a year or two and you will get $400ish for it and you wont risk the dealer voiding warranty or pocking a hole in your brake fluid reservoir.

Hi all,
As I had a similar issue recently I thought I would just update this post with November 2012 information.

Porsche Sydney South has just quoted me:

The disc is available from us for $639.00 (in stock)

However, Its not just a matter of ejecting the disc unfortunately.
As this vehicle is imported it will need to come into a workshop as there is codes
that need to be changed to make it compatible with the Australian maps.

Dont know if it is just a way of them to ensure we all buy the discs from them only, but for now I think I will be buying a portable sat nav.
