Better be careful in Tassie in May then Alvin. The standard tyres on the Speciale don't offer much grip when it is
5 degrees and pouring rain. Ask me how I know

They are fine in very cold/wet when you are not asking much of them i.e cruising.  Start leaning on them without careful warming and you might get a surprise. 
I turned into a LH uphill corner in Tassie and got nothing. It understeered straight across the oncoming lane and into the gravel verge on the other side of the road. Fortunately there was nothing to hit and it gripped in the gravel and on we went in the right direction.
Lesson learned big time. When very cold you put the screen on the tyre/pressure temperature display and very carefully bring the tyres up to operating temps and pressures before you go for it. These tyres behave very much like slicks off dead cold.

With new cars and new drivers, I'm voting for a very leisurely cruise in Tassie in May. The Corsas on the Mac were OK if used gently and quite grippy in the wet but only while they were warm. They really hung on during the tight Sideling stage on the way to Scottsdale, but only because they were nice and hot by then. I gave JBO and me a big fright on Devil's Elbow last year in the 12C on cold tyres, and the road was dry then.

Very leisurely is my advice
Tassie roads in May require a great deal of care. Snow, black ice etc on the West Coast and highland areas is likely.
