Ok, it HAS to be someone either emmigrating permanently from uk to Oz

or

an oz national working in uk and has owned the car there for a year or more, and is returning home here

How much do you think a noble m12 gto-3r would sell for here.... $100k? $130k? more? more than a tvr i would think...

i did the maths on it a while ago (6 months) and including buying all import stuff, rego, insurance etc... it would cost circa 60-70k to bring one in... 60k profit in there... not a bad sabbatical year overseas...

i can leave asap if someone wants one....

Won't work, the rules will change once something like that pops up and heaps of personal imports start Comming in, especially as they don't need to be complied they will say it becomes a safety issue, ps the gov never misses out on tax :)

I agree.

another way to do it, is to have an address there (origin) that you visit regularly, and then you can bring it back after a year of ownership.

but you  will be investigated and your passport and travel docs will be checked to prove your movements.

You can't just buy it and park it.

Also, the cars mileage may be checked too, to confirm usage.

The only trust worthy way that I can see it working is to have a friend over there that can not afford to bring a car home with them.
What do they get out of the deal I hear you ask???
They get to use your car for a year before it gets brought back to you!!!!

This requires alot of trust as you are buying a car in a friends name and then requiring them to then sell it to you and gift the money back... or somthing like that when they are back here

Quite strict guidelines.  They check every page of your passport to confirm that you've spent at least 365 full days OS.

It's a lot of work for a 'Friend' to do.

If you have the chance to do it yourself then it's quite simple and straight forward.  I'd definately do it again.

I suppose you could think of the whole process like a 'automotive surrogate'.  :scratchchin:

RHD F50 for sale at the moment.... this is the only way of getting one registered here... 600k AUD is a relative bargain.... no idea what that makes it here.... but if its under 1mil its worth it.... IM-F50Loving-O

So who's done the sums. What are the requirements once it is back to Oz. I will consider bring myself something back if possible, but what will need to be done. We talk a lot about importing and RAWS etc, but what do you have to do for PI? Have we got a thread on that?
