Niche German supercar maker Gumpert has hit the wall. The company, founded by former Audi exec Roland Gumpert has applied for insolvency in Germany after a failed plan to sell its supercars to Chinese buyers.

It is possible that the insolvency process might be used to reshuffle Gumpert into a leaner, more effective company.

The lawyer appointed to oversee the process, Gorge Scheid, says it has a good chance of recovery.

Initial discussions with possible investors will begin this week.

Gumpert's Apollo is a stunning machine that is powered by an Audi-sourced 4.2 litre V8, sold in base trim at 485kW, or tweaked up to 595kW. Even the lowest spec version is capable of a heart-stopping 3.1 second 0-100km/h and a claimed top speed of 360km/h.

He would have done better if he'd called his car company something else.  "What car is that?"  "It's a Gumpert" "Oh, OK, bye"

^ Is true.

Maybe he's blocked out being bullied at school.

If it had've been called the 'hawt-chix-dig-this-mobile' - I'd have at least done a test drive   :)
C'mon, do it!

They go to the wall every 12 months or so, then some misterious investors popup and order 30 cars for China and Malaysia. I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Gumpert (a frustrated ex Audi engineer) and drive one of his 700HP test cars. Its a pure racing car, nothing more nothing less. Name aside, I think its a great purpose made car.

I watched a doco on a Qantas flight last week about rallying in the 80's and Mr Gumpert was featured. Lots of stuff about how the Quattro shocked the rally world.
