Hey guys, I live in the US and have done for the last 18mths and while here I purchased a CLK55 AMG. I now want to take it back to Australia with me at the end of the year and have found a place here that can do the RHD conversion for me.

2 questions, Firstly what compliance to I have to get to be able to get it licensed in Australia (I have owned the car here for over 12mths so would be imported under the personal imports scheme) and secondly, if I don't get it converted here, does anyone know if there is anyone in Australia that could do it for me (preference would be Qld way if possible)

Don't bother...It will devalue the car.
Who will but a LHD converted CLK55 in the future, when they can buy a genuine one here for a little more.

Hi there,
I am planning to do a similar exercise as you mention. Maybe a Porsche though. Hopefully you are willing to share info?
Who did you use to convert the steering over? Did you learn anything since you posted query?

Regards
Patrick

Hey,

I'm also very interested to know if anyone has converted a Merc. I'll looking at an 03-05 SL500 or 600 to bring back from Dubai.

Any tips/thoughts appreciated.

Sl500.... Not sure it will be worth the hassle especially with converting... They are asking from $70k Aud, so looking at a real sale price of around $55-$60k and upwards for Australian delivered cars. An import will fetch less (especially a converted one from Dubai).

Might just be easier and cheaper to buy one when you come to aus????   Especially with the falling Australian dollar.
You can say I'm wrong, but my garage doesn't agree with that statement!!!
