Black has always been the choice of prestige/ luxury car makers like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Lexus. However in more recent times other car makers have jumped onto the band wagon offering black as a color choice. It’s no wonder really; it’s timeless, ages better, creates sense of mystery, sophistication, seduction and looks good on anything!  The downside to all this (most owners of black cars will agree) is that scratches, imperfection and dirt are much more noticeable on a black car.

Before and after shot. Black cars generally have more depth and gloss then say a dull color like white or silver. But as you can see in the image once it gets dirty it very noticeable.

Living near the beach is great, fresh air, sunny weather, and blue waters…. but the salt from the sea breeze sucks and can turn a clean black car into a dirty salty car in minutes.

On colors like white or silver; dirt and scratches are less noticeable and always look a lot cleaner for longer.  In the above picture the silver car looks clean, but look closer and you can see the dirt and bugs along its side skirts.

Colour 101:
Black absorbs all light of the light spectrum, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet and Indigo, whereas say green absorbs all colours of the spectrum except for green. Shiny black paint is like a poor man’s mirror where the background light and objects are reflected in the surface. If you put fine scratches into that surface it will stand out as white reflected light.

To reduce swirl marks, scratches while maintaining the glossy and depth that only black can provide, Mothers has come up with the Ultimate Wax system.

Step1. The pre-wax cleaner.  This is a chemical cleaner which will target the poor areas of your paint to remove oxidation, old wax and restore the colour. Applying the Pre-wax cleaner will prepare the paint and help polish out light scratches.

Step2. Sealer and Glaze. This is where the magic really happens. Sealer and glaze is resin polish that will polish and fill out remaining scratches and swirl mark while giving the paint depth and a wet look.

Step3. Pure Carnauba Wax.  The final step for any detailing session is protecting your hard work from the elements, improving the length of wash time and adding SHINE to the paint. Pure carnauba wax will add shine, protection to your paintwork making each wash afterwards easier and also allowing the results to last much longer.

With three simple steps maintaining, owning and enjoying a black car or any other colour can be made easy.

Note: Before waxing or polishing always remember to give your car a wash to remove dirt and grime build up. Using Mothers ShowTime to remove any water spots or dust is also a good idea and recommended.

Bonus tip:  The Mothers wax attack orbital machine can greatly reduce wax and polish time by half when used in conjunction with the Mother Ultimate 3 step system.
