Yeah the house had a strange white lawn.

Actually I find homes built in the snow generally are less cold than general australian houses because they're built for it.  Here in Australia houses (obviously I'm generalising here) are not built to accommodate cold.  I have far too many memories as a child of being completely frozen at home in winter,  and that was perth let alone Melbourne cold.

Nevertheless I only set for in Melbourne in December-February,  and go on holidays during our winter to the northern hemisphere to avoid the cold.

If it's cold, put on more clothes.
I remember my first winter in Europe. I was so excited to see all the snow and go driving through it.......for about 2 days....then I was over it! It's the conditions I was referring to more than just the temperature. It's a balmy 12 degrees in Melbourne at the moment :)

OMG   I would die.

Although too cold for my taste,  I will agree that on balance Sydney is definitely the ideal spot.  And the best city :)

I respectfully disagree, Perth has the best year-round weather.
