Yep.  The S65 is a lot more expensive.

why an s class at all. should be panamera, m5 and e63

Again, it is about price.  Someone else (CAR magazine?) compared the E63 to the Panamera though.  The M5 is now an old model.

Wow, it is a lot more expensive. I just had a look at http://autos.msn.com, and the S65 doesn't appear to be on sale in the US any more. It was in 2008, when it was US$194000. The S63 is US$133550-ish, and the S600 is around US$149700. That $60000 between the S63 and S65 is enough to buy a C63 or M3 :)

The Panamera turbo is around US$132600, and a 760Li isn't on sale any more either but when it was in 2008 it was US$124100.

Both the S65 and 760iL are still on sale in the US - and here.  The BMW is a brand new model so your US price comparison doesn't apply.
This might be more useful...

In Australia, the s63 is a SWB car only but in US it is LWB.

You're right - the MSN website hasn't been updated.

The RRP for the curent S65 is around US$201000, versus about US$133000 for the S63 - that's still a C63 for the kids in the difference... and it's nearly enough for a 911.

The 760iL is US$139575, so I guess the range of cars they tested are reasonably comparable by price.

No doubt - if you live in America.
